In February 2003, the United Kingdom Foreign & Commonwealth Office and the British Red Cross jointly organised the first Commonwealth Red Cross and Red Crescent Conference on International Humanitarian Law. 48 Commonwealth countries were represented by their Government and/or National Society. The focus was on exchanging views and ideas for practical action in addressing common issues, including IHL implementation, National Society statutes and the International Conference.
