A course is being held from 13 to 16 August in Nabran, in the north-east of the country, for 21 students from different universities. Presentations by experts from the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan University of Languages, Nakhchivan State University and the ICRC will help the students gain a better understanding of the practical application of IHL and of current challenges in that area.
Together with the Eurasian Lawyers Association, the ICRC will also hold a seminar on IHL and human rights for 30 people, including teachers of international law and representatives of law firms and NGOs. Participants will discuss such issues as the relevance of IHL in contemporary forms of armed conflict, the distinction between combatants and non-combatants and the implementation of IHL. The meeting will be addressed by Hendrik Strydom, professor of public international law at Johannesburg University, South Africa, and Tamar Tomashvili, legal adviser at the permanent mission of Georgia in Geneva.
