Your task
The ICRC operating theatre nurse works as part of surgical teams sent in when existing facilities are unable to care for persons injured as a result of war. He/she may also treat victims of accident and illness. The teams work either in hospitals built, equipped, supplied and managed by the ICRC, or in existing hospitals to which the ICRC provides supplies and equipments, reinforces local personnel and, in some cases, assist with training.
Selection requirements
- prepare to accept unaccompanied posting for the duration of the assignment (minimum 3 months)
- excellent command of English; French is an asset
- qualified general nursing, ideally should have diploma or certificate as operating theatre nurse
- a minimum of 5 years professional experience in operating theatres as instrument nurse/ in charge of the operating lists
- ability to use sterilization / autoclave equipment
- driving licence (for manual transmission vehicles)
